Walking in the Spirit vs. the Flesh (Galatians 5) | Spiritual Growth Series

This sermon continues a summer series on spiritual strength and growth, teaching that true spiritual growth is conformity to Christ and comes from God changing us from the inside out. In Galatians 5, Paul contrasts walking in the Spirit with walking in the flesh, warning that the flesh and Spirit battle and that legalism wrongly trusts performance and the law for favor or salvation. The message explains the works of the flesh (including sexual sin, idolatry, “pharmakeia”/witchcraft, hatred, division, envy, drunkenness, and more) and emphasizes that a life characterized by these is not Spirit-led. In contrast, walking in the Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control—calling believers to crucify the flesh daily, live with an eternal perspective, and keep pressing forward in maturity.
