Disagreements Without Division: Christian Liberty and Unity (Romans 14)

The sermon introduces Romans 14 and teaches that Christians need not agree on every nonessential issue, but must maintain unity, governed by love. While the gospel and clear biblical commands are non-negotiable, believers may differ on matters Scripture does not clearly command or forbid, and these disagreements must not become divisions. Paul’s instruction is to “receive” the weaker brother without quarrelling over opinions, distinguishing weakness from rebelliousness. Using the example of eating meat versus vegetables, the message explains possible historical reasons (Jew/Gentile dietary concerns and meat associated with idolatry) and applies the principle broadly to issues of conscience. Stronger believers must not despise stricter believers, and weaker believers must not judge those exercising liberty, because God has received both. The sermon calls for patience, humility, discernment about sin versus conscience, and reliance on the Holy Spirit for growth.
