Romans 11: Mercy for Jew & Gentile—Reject Pride, Boast in the Cross
Pastor Josh continues the Middletown Baptist Church series in Romans 11, addressing whether God has been unfaithful to Israel and emphasizing that salvation for both Jews and Gentiles comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, not lineage or works. He warns Gentile believers not to boast over “broken” branches, since Israel’s separation is due to unbelief and believers stand only by grace. He explains God’s “goodness and severity,” defines mercy as God withholding what sinners deserve and grace as giving what we do not deserve, and urges believers to glory only in the cross (Galatians 6:14; 2 Corinthians 10:17–18). Pastor Josh teaches that Israel’s blindness is partial and temporary, that Israel can be grafted in again through belief, and that God will fulfill His covenant promises, calling the church to humility, worship, repentance, and gospel witness.
