Disagreements Without Division (Romans 14): Christian Liberty Governed by Love
In this sermon from Romans 14, Pastor Josh teaches that Christians do not have to agree on every matter of opinion, but must pursue unity and avoid division, especially on issues Scripture does not clearly command or forbid. He explains Christian liberty as the freedom believers have in non-essential matters, which must be governed by Christian love, humility, and submission to God’s Word where God has clearly spoken. Using the example of eating meat versus only vegetables, he describes “strong” and “weak” believers as differing in maturity and understanding of liberty, not salvation, and warns against the strong despising and the weak judging. He emphasizes receiving fellow believers God has received, distinguishing disputable matters from clear sin, and encouraging growth without forcing uniform personal convictions.
